This presentation reviews aspects of compensation and total rewards in the workplace and addresses how organizations can stay competitive and attract top talent in an ever-changing business landscape. 

Michele Burns, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, CCP, CBP, GRP

Manager Total Rewards at Private Family Office

Michele Burns is a human resource practitioner and educator specializing in the areas of compensation, benefits, statistics, and workforce development. In addition to teaching at various higher educational institutions, she has served as a Total Rewards leader at various organizations. Her responsibilities have included providing strategic oversight of compensation, classification, job analysis, job documentation, compensation, benefits administration, leave, and work-life balance processes. Michele is a doctoral candidate and recently completed a graduate certificate in Educational Statistics and Research Methods, an area that she finds specifically suited for the statistical side of human resources like job analysis, job evaluation, and compensation management. In addition to holding the generalist certifications of SHRM-SCP and SPHR, she holds various specialist certifications such as CCP (Certified Compensation Professional), CBP (Certified Benefits Professional), and GRP (Global Remuneration Professional). She is passionate about the field of human resources and completed a three-year term as the State Council Director for the Arkansas SHRM State Council. She has served in various volunteer positions including MAC Representative alternate for the Southwest Central Region, ARSHRM Arkansas State Council Director-Elect, State Council Chapter Advocate Director, Certification Chair, WAHRA (Western Arkansas Human Resource Association) President, President-Elect, Treasurer, and Certification Chair.

Cliff Sandsmark, CCP, CSCP, SHRM-SCP, SPHR

Sr. Consultant at JER HR Group

Cliff Sandsmark is a SPHR certified senior Compensation Consultant has 30+ years of experience working on various compensation projects. His experience includes corporate and regional office compensation plans, job valuation, regional and national market pay studies and other related compensation projects. Cliff also has experience implementing HRIS systems like Peoplesoft and Workday covering HR and HRIS projects in a shared service environment.
