The Tough Stuff: Communication & Conflict 

Key Objectives

1) Recognize different communication styles: Participants will learn to identify various communication styles, including verbal and nonverbal cues, emotional expressions, and frequency of communication, enabling them to better understand how individuals interact within a team environment. 2) Analyze communication pitfalls: Attendees will gain insights into common communication challenges such as unclear messaging, over-communication, under-communication, and emotional communication, allowing them to recognize potential barriers to effective workplace communication. 3) Develop strategies for improved communication: Participants will acquire practical strategies and techniques for enhancing workplace communication, including clarity in messaging, active listening skills, and adapting communication styles to diverse team dynamics, fostering stronger relationships and increased productivity.

We all know how important communication is to building strong and effective teams, but it’s also one of the things that gets us in the most trouble. Nonverbal communication, unclear communication, over-communication, under-communication, emotional communication, and different styles of communication can positively or negatively impact relationships and workplace dynamics. This session will identify various communications styles and unlock strategies to improving workplace communication.  

Steven Shook

Steven Shook is a Stuttgart, Arkansas native and Stuttgart High School alumnus. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Management Information Systems (MIS) from the University of Central Arkansas in 2014. Subsequently, Steven achieved his Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) in 2018. Currently, he is dedicated to furthering his education by pursuing a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership at the esteemed Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, IL. During his undergraduate tenure, Steven demonstrated a commitment to excellence by actively participating in various student organizations. Notably, he was honored with the title of “Greek Man of the Year” during his senior year of college. With a wealth of experience, Steven served as the Director for the Center for Leadership Development at the University of Central Arkansas for almost 10 years. Presently, Steven Shook contributes his expertise as a Consultant/Facilitator for LEADEROLOGY in Southern California. Additionally, he operates as the Owner and Consultant of ShakeItUpConsulting. His professional journey is marked by a profound dedication to driving growth and innovation across diverse industries such as higher education, technology, government, non-profit, healthcare, industrial, and religious organizations. Beyond his professional pursuits, he serves as the Director of Music at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in North Little Rock, AR. His passion for music extends beyond his church role, as he enjoys playing music across the Southern region. Steven remains committed to continuous learning, both in the areas of leadership and music.
