Key Objectives

Participants will leave with:

  • Further clarification and understanding about microaggressions;
  • Strategies and tools to counter microaggressions;
  • Insights and personal strategies to help guide further reflection.

Summary

A highly interactive session designed to foster deep awareness, reflection and discussion on how to recognize and mitigate microaggressions in everyday interactions and at work, through participant engagement in large and small group discussions. Participants will be invited to collaborate in learning by sharing experiences, questions and perspectives related to microaggressions in a thoughtfully facilitated environment. Participants will leave with insights and personal strategies to help guide further reflection, conversation and action to counter microaggressions and to better assure their practices match their values regarding diversity and inclusion.

Magdalena Arroyo

Trainer, Facilitator, and Consultant at IDEALS Institute

Magdalena Arroyo is a Trainer, Facilitator and Consultant for the IDEALS Institute. Ms. Arroyo brings years of experience as the Latinx Outreach Coordinator and Safe Zone Student Coordinator for the Center for Multicultural and Diversity Education, where she empowered students through cultural awareness and education.

Dr. Rickey Booker, Ed. D.

Trainer, Facilitator, and Consultant at IDEALS Institute

Dr. Rickey Booker, Ed. D. is a Trainer, Facilitator and Consultant for the IDEALS Institute. He obtained his Master of Education in 2006 and doctorate in Workforce Development Education in 2011 from the University of Arkansas. He has worked in higher education for 14 years and most recently worked as the Director of Career Programs for the University Career Development Center at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville.

Anne Shelley

Trainer, Facilitator, and Consultant at IDEALS Institute

Anne Shelley is a Trainer, Facilitator and Consultant for the IDEALS Institute. Ms. Shelley has facilitated DEI trainings and critical conversations in Arkansas for over 20 years. She has been a longtime leader in the nonprofit sector in Arkansas, including servings as former director of Just Communities of NWA whose mission was to fight bias, bigotry, and racism through education and awareness.
