MICROAGGRESSSIONS: Matching Your Values to Your Actions
Participants will leave with:
- Further clarification and understanding about microaggressions;
- Strategies and tools to counter microaggressions;
- Insights and personal strategies to help guide further reflection.
A highly interactive session designed to foster deep awareness, reflection and discussion on how to recognize and mitigate microaggressions in everyday interactions and at work, through participant engagement in large and small group discussions. Participants will be invited to collaborate in learning by sharing experiences, questions and perspectives related to microaggressions in a thoughtfully facilitated environment. Participants will leave with insights and personal strategies to help guide further reflection, conversation and action to counter microaggressions and to better assure their practices match their values regarding diversity and inclusion.

Executive Director at IDEALS Institute
Elecia Smith is the Executive Director for the IDEALS Institute at the University of Arkansas which is a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) education, research and consultancy institute dedicated to creating diverse, equitable and inclusive workplaces and communities. The Institute works with system leaders and employers representing organizations of all sizes, sectors and industries, including for-profit corporations, nonprofits, educational institutions, as well as local governments and public agencies to increase awareness and knowledge and to develop the skills to be effective in a changing environment. In addition to her DEI knowledge, Elecia has expertise in human resources, workforce development education, strategic planning, talent management, administration, and organizational development. Dr. Smith earned her Bachelor of Science degree from The Ohio State University, and her master’s in educational technology and Doctorate in Human Resources and Workforce Development Education from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville.
